How to get to Taichung City from Taipei?
Getting from Taipei City to Taichung City is easier than ever, with Taiwan’s booming high technology, traveling intercity won’t be much of a problem. Here’s my recommendation and choose what your heart tells you.
By Taiwan High-Speed Rail(THSR) Train. Nothing can beat this ultra-fast train in the country and imagine that you can get to Taichung within 40-60 mins of travel time. Take note, did I tell you that the distance between Taipei and Taichung is approximately 146km!
If you are decided and want to be lightning-fast getting to this awesome city of Taichung, I’d recommend getting your ticket in advance. And klook actually offers a discounted THSR Train ticket from Taipei to Taichung.
By Bus. Depending on your preference, traveling to Taichung by Bus is also a good option especially if you are a budget traveler. Travel time will take around 2-3 hours if you are set with this mode of transportation. But I will tell you that traveling by bus isn’t bad, in fact, you can have your few hours of travel sightseeing in this little country.
Because I know that this might be useful and can also be used for your touring around the city, Ill recommend getting an EasyCard. This card will serve as your payment method once you travel around by Bus and it is very convenient. Just load it up at the nearest convenience store and voila! You can hop and drop around the town.
During our tour though, we have hired a van for our Taichung Tour. We are a group of 6 travelers from the Philippines and one of our colleague actually arrange it so it’s basically more of a hassle-free for me when we visit Taichung.
Moving forward, now that we have arrived, let’s imagine! The question is “How do we get around this town?”
Ways of Touring Around Taichung City
I don’t want to beat around the bush with this, so I am going to give you three(3) options. Again! It will always depends on your preference.
1. Car Rental – Very convenient and preferred for a group of 4-5 travelers.
2. Motor Rental – Super recommended! Ideal for solo and couple travelers.
3. Public Bus – This is for adventurous travelers out there that want to blend in like a local, this must be the most exciting option to choose from. Again, if you get the bus transport, never ever forget your EasyCard!
Getting ready? I’m soooo excited now to share with your our Taichung Itinerary for a Day. I want to remind you that this itinerary is base solely on our experience. Of course, this may opt to serve as a guide for your next travel and you are free to change the route and destination according to your liking.
Dropping by to Fodingshan Chaosheng Temple
Entrance Fee: FREE!
First, I know that the Fodingshan Temple isn’t located at the Taichung City but in it’s neighborhood town, the Miaoli County. However, this temple is along the way so why not drop by, right?
We were welcomed by this huge Temple gate, and what a picturesque view it is! It is actually not that well-known and is kind of underrated by some fellow known temples in the country.

In which visiting this place is off to good vibes and relaxing because of the presence of a very few tourists only. The temple is huge and its whole vicinity is composed of different temple structures, monuments, parks, and etc.
So amazing to see a temple and there are a lot of different stone carvings around the park. We walk around to explore more of this hidden place and saw these large rocks piled up which is actually a nice view for me. As I am always fond of rock formations with trees blending on it. Yeah, that’s how I describe that type of view, very simple is it?
And to my favorite spot that we saw inside was this little bridge with a pond.

And that how it goes with our first stop on the way to Taichung, not knowing it would be a lot more vivid and vibrant as we explore more of Taichung City.
Welcomed by the Zhongshe Flower Market!
Entrance Fee: NT$150 (P 251.16/ $5)
Entrance Fee + Lunch(Unlimited BBQ): NT$350 (P 586.03/ $11.88)
Our second stop or the actual first tourist spot we have visited in the city of Taichung is the well-known Zhongshe Flower Market or the Houli Flower Farm. With its location only near the boundary of Taichung and Miaoli County, it’s best to get to Zhongshe Flower Market as early as possible. And I know you want to ask why?
Because I’m sure, as for my fellow female traveler, spending an hour or two isn’t enough with this flower-haven place! Get your camera ready as it will be a full packed pictorial, don’t forget your power bank and extra batteries *wink*
As this is one of my favorite place, I’ll share you some spots to get your Instagram worthy photos.
Upon entering the flower farm, you will be welcomed by this beautiful spot and Zhongshe Flower Market is indeed a beautiful place to visit on. Just by looking at how vibrant the flowers are, I’m definitely satisfied!
This awesomely heart shaped flower bed with the friendly dwarfs behind can make you feel like you are Snow White in this wonderful land. Noting also a great backdrop of the farm mill. This is just around the entrance and grab the chance to get those beautiful pictures!

I was captivated by these flower arch, why do I feel like this spot is actually perfect for couples? Rather let me get you an emoting shot in this cool spot!

I actually feel ashamed by how beautiful the flowers are and I was leaning against them. Shouldn’t be the flowers are my backdrop? But my photos say vice versa. Lol!
The Lavender Fields
Saving the best for last, as many people are saying and actually what I like doing when it comes to traveling, which is why I wanted to show you my favorites in this flower farm. And that’s my Lavender field shots! I actually took every lavender spot in the area.
I know that flowers are gorgeous so I accepted to be blurry! One of my favorite shots! Don’t care about my presence, but lavenders plus the farm mill, so love this view!
And hey it’s me trying to be a musician now *lol* I actually waited for so long just to get a shot. Lots of tourist wants to get their solo photo in this spot so I recommend to go straight ahead here and pose here first thing!

So I have blurred again, what in the world was happening? I get it! Lavenders are prettier. Kidding aside. Don’t miss out on this moon shot in the lavender fields!

I know I don’t want to stop, please bear with me! So finally I blend in with my favorite lavenders, I’m so glad to be with them *yay!*

With this picture stuffs happening, surely you’ll get incredibly hungry, right? Well, the Zhongshe Flower Market actually offers an unlimited BBQ lunch for NT$ 350 including entrance fee which is actually a great deal.
However, during our visit, the BBQ area is full and we thought that it is better to get lunch somewhere, as the flower farm is our actual first destination and we don’t want to smell like a BBQ the whole day of our tour. So we had our lunch in a simple restaurant just across the street of the flower market!
A Very Inspiring Rainbow Village
Entrance Fee: FREE!
After lunch, we continued the tour in this town and found this eye-catching village in Taichung, the so-called Rainbow Village. The place is full of artistically painted walls, houses, and streets. So wherever you are facing, yes, it is painted beautifully. These vibrant colored houses took the attention of the people making it certainly famous.

I wouldn’t have really thought that there is actually a history or rather an inspiring story behind this colorful village. So let me tell you that story, don’t skip! I’ll keep it short *wink*
So this village is originally a Military Housing with over 1,000 houses built around the village. While many business owners are getting greedy enough to perform and conduct a demolition scheme to this village. The “grandpa” namely Mr. Huang Yung-Fu, a former soldier, refused to leave his house. With that, he exhibits his innate talent in art and starts painting his house with this beautifully drawn art by his bare hands. It all started with his courage and the neighbors also ask the same thing and yes, he manually paints the house of his neighborhood as well. This simple act of him actually serves as a settlement to save their houses from being demolished.
This act of Mr. Huang still lives and retained as the symbol of this very village.
Moving on, don’t forget to try this fun shot and taste the rainbow ice cream too!
A Unique Street called the Painted Animation Lane or Alley
Entrance Fee: FREE!
We are about to end the day but we never missed dropping by this one quiet street in Taichung known as the Painted Animation Alley. The street is boosting painted walls with some famous Anime characters.
We quietly stroll around the street while looking for our favorite Anime. But before the strolling starts, at the entrance of the Animated Alley, this cool shed awaits for a photo op session.

Here are some of our fun photos with our favorite anime and cartoon characters!
Dragon Ball Z Anime! Got this cute shot with Bugs Bunny!
Ghost Fighter Team Fun shot with Super Mario!
Go Team Shohoku! And finally my favorite, Doraemon!
An Instagrammable Gelato Shop in Town, I’m Talato!
Not that far from the Animation Alley, the gelato shop I’m Talato was located. This shop is famous for having an Instagram worthy backdrop inside their shop. You can buy a scoop of their ice cream and then your off for your cute and pretty photo session inside.
As for us, we decided to just drop by outside the shop because there are a lot of tourists inside. Fortunately, the I’m Talato shop won’t let us feel disappointed by not being able to get that Instagram shot because outside a huge see-saw with ice cream stack backdrop can satisfy your photoshoot!

End the day with Fengjia Night Market Experience
Night markets in Taiwan are certainly famous and it won’t hurt to try it out, right? For foodie lovers out there, the Fengjia Night Market is actually designed for you! There is a lot to choose from that I can’t even describe because all of them are Taiwanese cuisine so we just opt to eat something base on our own instinct. Lol!
After all, it would be nice to try out something new and see if your taste buds match it. Just a simple reminder, being in a night market means you have to encounter a lot of people so you better take very good care of your belongings and secure all the important things.
Since Taichung is actually our last day in Taiwan, we also decided to bought our souvenirs here in Fengjia Night Market! Make sure to check out some stuffs to buy.
And that ends our day tour in Taichung City! I know it’s not much but I totally enjoy our day trip here and I’m sure that you will too.
Honestly, I deeply regret that I have missed a lot of places to visit in this city. There are still more into this lively town of Taichung and promise to make it back again. So now, I’m about to give you a breakdown and sample itinerary with baseline to our experience above.
You may opt to remove some places you think you won’t like visiting and add something you think is worth it. You can check my 11 Worth Seeing Taichung Attractions article and check if there are some places you want to include on your tour.
